At aluminium production and processing plants, aluminium surface coated with eloxal at eloxal baths to protect aluminium material. from corrosion. During this process, Aluminium material is submerged to eloxal baths about 20-40 minutes and baths have 18-20 g/L sufiric acid concentration. Also bath’s aluminium concentration will be increased by time.

For system’s efficiency, reducing electric consumption and increacing eloxal coating quality; acid and aluminium concentration should be kept at particular ranges. Therefore, while eloxal process acid concentration is decreasing, desired acid concentration is returned by adding acid. When aluminium concentration excesses desired concentration, tank is emptied and refilled again.

Lately, acid recovery systems at eloxal baths, are widely used because of economical and environmentally benefits.

Advantages of acid recovery systems:

- Preventing of time lose of eloxal baths filling and emptying process.

- Less chemical consumption, it means cost reduction because of reuse of recovered acid.

- With acid recovery, it allows to keep stabilized concentrations of acid and aluminium. It provides lower electrical concumption.

- Thrown acid in the bath is sent to treatment plants. Base should be used to neutralize acid at the treatment plant. When acid recovery made, acid will not be disposed it will reduce treatment plant’s load and also prevent extra base consumption.

- Formed acidic wastewater at batch systems, it prevents shock loadings of acidic wastewater to treatment plant and provides more economical and efficient operation.

With a method which developed by EPAÇEVRE, %50 of produced water at acid recovery system is used for system’s  backwashing . Even at smallest plant, 10 tons/day water is recovered. This  carries weight with economical benefits and using limited water sources efficiently.
